There are around 130-140 species and cultivars
of Sansevierias. Many of the cultivars are variegated forms and
there are over 60 cultivars of Sansevieria trifasciata alone. In
fact they are so numerous that it has become necessary to divide
them up into three groups:
- normal full size,
- medium size with wide leaves (‘Futura’ type)
- dwarf bird’s-nest size (‘Hahnii’ type).
We have listed below some of the species and cultivars
available in cultivation. By clicking on the name you can bring
up a picture. One of the difficulties in identification is that
many Sansevierias have a juvenile and mature form which can appear
to be different plants. Where possible examples of both are shown.
